On the one hand, it’s incredibly cool that this method (measuring via sponges) even works. On the other hand, what a depressing result.

- hotpotamus 3y agoI had the same thought - really cool that they calibrated it against modern measurements and were then able to find known historic anomalies in the data. On the other hand, it would be nice to get one or two stories where things are going better than expected, wouldn't it? Of course, then the deniers will just use them as evidence that everything is going to be OK, so we don't need to do anything.

The change in temperature is the result of outlawing a particular chemical used in ship fuel. That means that we were subconsciously geo-engineering the atmosphere with positive results. https://www.science.org/content/article/changing-clouds-unforeseen-test-geoengineering-fueling-record-ocean-warmth https://www.science.org/content/article/changing-clouds-unfo... https://youtu.be/dk8pwE3IByg?si=lqt2E9Q3GMExhLZ- https://youtu.be/dk8pwE3IByg?si=lqt2E9Q3GMExhLZ-
