If I understand properly, pg is looking for great people who may not have the 'greatest billion dollar idea'. This individual he is looking for, has creativity, has built products and is a passionate technologist, not an empty-head. I think what he's doing is great. This proces brings a new breed of people into the YC engine. People who couldn't find co-founders, who couldn't launch startups in their college, who don't have access to a great technological community.
