As it happens, Washington put some reasonable-sounding rules in place after the 2020 protests (https://crosscut.com/politics/2021/07/what-new-wa-police-accountability-laws-do-and-dont-do https://crosscut.com/politics/2021/07/what-new-wa-police-acc...), and our police reacted in the same way yours did: they do nothing. Or as little as possible. So since they already do nothing, we might as well get the laws tightened up.
