I wonder how good GitHub is at detecting spam/fake accounts... from my experience those type of accounts are created from some of the countries GitHub says are increasing. Also there's been an increase in ChatGPT spam comments on GitHub.[0] The goal seems to be faking account activity to make the accounts seem legit, so I wouldn't trust active user numbers too much.
