I'm not publishing an article on a major news site so my fact clearance rates are lower - that said some cursory searching showed better workplace safety results in the UK and EU on the order of 5 to 30% depending on the source (BLS has some data also). Wrt environmental protection, and the political aspect, I would answer that the withdrawal from the Paris agreement demonstrates both.
Also: Workplace safety is connected to cost of care, and if a broken leg costs 10x as much to treat in the US, while simultaneously preventing the person from earning (and thus relying on benefits) then I believe the US would be a less than ideal place to experience that injury.
Just for the curious, here are some reports from respective governments. I am not submitting them as evidence.
US-BLS: ~3.5 deaths/100k https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/cfoi.pdf https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/cfoi.pdf
UK-HSE: ~0.5 deaths/100k. https://www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/assets/docs/fatalinjuries.pdf https://www.hse.gov.uk/statistics/assets/docs/fatalinjuries....
No doubt the criteria for measurement differ in ways that prevent a direct comparison.
