UK's "Online Safety Act" Officially grants MSM permission to publish lies

- halJordan 3y agoYou're telling me that it is legal for a broadcaster to maliciously libel and slander in the UK? Or could it possibly be that different orgs are covered under different laws.
- getwiththeprog 3y agoThe Guardian has gone to the dogs, but this Off-Guardian has a really wierd paranoid vibe. Have a look at the front page, it is very distopian itself. A very reactionary and ill-considered article.
- voxic11 3y agoIf you read the article it is not about libel or slander its about "misinformation" which is a new criminal offense in the UK. So if I publish a lie that isn't slander or libel (doesn't defame a specific person, like if I claim the earth is flat), then I can be sentenced to a year in prison. But if a "recognized news publisher" publishes the same lie they cannot be charged with a crime.
