Show HN: I made a spreadsheet that ranks messengers for privacy
- du82 3y agoI’ve been working really hard to research and rank messaging apps by their privacy. The more green boxes the better. I plan to turn PrivacySpreadsheet.com into a place for privacy data on everything from cars to video games. It’s all open source too on GitHub. Not trying to advertise, I just put a lot of time into researching all this (over 150 hours), and I want to share it since I think others could benefit.
- andrewinardeer 3y agoInformative. I am curious how you drew the conclusion whether or not apps were recommended for private communication. My understanding is that Session was great for private communication. Is that based on using Google Services for push notifications? What about its native routing for notifications?
- du82 3y agoSession purposefully removed perfect forward secrecy when they forked Signal, which is why it didn't make the recommendations list. That's a critical thing to remove, which confuses me a lot since it cant be accidentally removed.
- andrewinardeer 3y agoThis does seem odd. Is this information available somewhere to verify?
