Software is great for what it does, unfortunately the good stuff in the commercial space is all subscription based. FOSS is better than ever, but it hasn't kept up with commercial software on cross platformness. It's just too much boring tedious work that nobody really wants to do without being paid. There's no FOSS alternative to Google Keep that has full parity, despite how simple it is, P2P has stagnated and been replaced with self-hosted stuff, which I have just about zero interest in. But Jami, BitTorrent, and SyncThing are going strong, so p2p isn't quite dead yet.
