Do you have a specific qualms with satellites providing internet to remote areas or EVs or space exploration or is it purely personal?
In other words, what makes it "garbage" to you?
If it's straight up due to Musk being involved, isn't that a negative outlook for the sake of being negative?
You could just view it as humans advancing and be happy about that.
- mort96 3y agoI think I have been pretty clear? I don't care for Musk's projects.
- theultdev 3y agoYou were clear on the opinion, not the reasoning. I was just curious as to why you didn't care for the projects.
- mort96 3y agoI don't really see an individual asshole's ownership of such a large part of the world's internet access as "humans advancing". Nor do I see his attempt at shifting the conversation away from actual solutions (e.g public transport, walkable cities, etc) over to "buy slightly more efficient and very expensive cars from him" as "humans advancing". His efforts to signal-boost the far right is certainly not "humans advancing". This is just PR for one of his shitty projects. It has no place on HN.
- theultdev 3y agothat internet access didn't exist before this project. it's not like he took over an existing share of the internet, he connected more people together that weren't previously. btw you'll still need vehicles, whether you make your city/town walkable or not, stores need trucks, people have emergencies. and it's up to your local government to handle public transportation properly, not Elon...
- mort96 3y agoNone of that has anything to do with what I wrote, cool.
- theultdev 3y agoSmart choice to deflect. See you on the next Elon article you crave.
- mort96 3y agoI mean there's not that much I can do when you just write unrelated stuff? "None of those people were connected to the Internet before" .. so therefore it's somehow good that those people's Internet access is controlled by one ass? "Businesses still need trucks" .. so therefore it's good to sell in slightly more efficient cars as the solution to the personal transport part of the climate crisis? Or to derail high speed rail projects with vapourware promises? The things I wrote and the things you responded with aren't connected, so there's not much intelligent commentary to give.
- theultdev 3y agoNow you responded to each item, good. That's how a conversation works. But going into each individual political talking point for the various subjects you brought up would be tiring. I'm not going to dive into your misguided views when we can't even talk about the initial topic that giving internet to disconnected people is a good thing and not garbage.
- mort96 3y agoCool. Bye.
