Polyamory, the Ruling Class's Latest Fad

- cafard 3y agoLatest? Didn't Marx say that the ruling classes slept around? But I suppose they didn't acknowledge it.
- jassyr 3y agoMorals for thee, but not for me!
- shiroiuma 3y agoAre the "ruling classes" actually trying to dictate morals? Some of them, sure, like the ones who historically were religious leaders, or these days politicians who push religion, but these days I don't see, for instance, business leaders making speeches about morality at all, except maybe that one nutcase who bought Twitter.

- alephnerd 3y agoIt's just a book review for an (imo extremely overrated) memoir about some rich Karen who likes swinging. Feels a bit like a submarine piece cuz I've seen 5 other reviews with similar content and flow. Welcome to publishing I guess

- rayiner 3y agoMarriage rates for people in the top 20% have barely changed since 1980. Over that same time it has dropped by 1/3 among the bottom 20%: https://www.brookings.edu/articles/middle-class-marriage-is-declining-and-likely-deepening-inequality/ https://www.brookings.edu/articles/middle-class-marriage-is-... If you’re not from the upper class, here is some advice. Ignore what affluent educated people say. Look at what they do.
- cyrillite 3y ago“Luxury beliefs”
- huytersd 3y agoBoring. Call me when polygamy is back on the table.

- mbgerring 3y agoYou could spend your one wild life writing hate articles about people having more fun than you, or you could live a little. The choice is yours!
- mynameisnoone 3y agoThis is the truth. Like Bill O'Reilly or (younger, less wise) Howard Stern, they're all about the cheap outrage shots if it leads to status or money. Either that, or they're incels in need of friends and social skills. Perhaps the best use of LLMs would be spamming The Atlantic with articles that aren't dripping with unproductive emotions like envy, jealousy, pity, or hate.
- whoopsie 3y agoLatest? Does no one read history?
- the_only_law 3y agoNot when they can fight another culture war battle!
- justanotherjoe 3y agoOh my. How scandalous!
- mynameisnoone 3y agoHate, the latest writer's fad. Polyamory isn't new. If someone doesn't like a lifestyle, it's none of their business.
- jmye 3y agoThat’s not, at all, what the article was about. Though I get the knee-jerk need to react as negatively as possible, as quickly as possible, to a headline. Speaking of “hate” and other online fads.
