No, of course we don't require you to spy on your users, break encryption, and censor who and what the independent disinformation, hate, and cyberbullying monitoring agencies tell you to - this is a free country! But it sure would be a shame if your failure to take those industry standard measures caused you to fall short of "reasonable measures" to protect your users.

Sadly, there is no such thing as reasonable measures anymore. You can't flag on keywords because they keep getting appropriated to obfuscate darker behaviors. Monitoring everyone's entire conversations at all times to disambiguate the context does not scale and is not reasonable by any definition. And that assumes voice and text media only-- if Zuck gets his way and everything goes VR, now you have to infer behavior and intent from 3D models. Is the one aggressively crouch-standing exercising, "dancing," or teabagging another user? > “These senators don’t actually care about protecting kids, they just want to control information,” one teenager posted. “If congress wants to protect children, they should pass a ... privacy law,” another teenager said. Others in the server accused the lawmakers of “trying to demonize the CEOs to push their ... bills,” which were often described with profanity The biggest failure of the internet was in empowering children to normalize sophistry as a means of domestic discourse. Small wonder so many are estranged from their families; nobody can work with bad actors. But yes, buddy. When the problem is kids learning better ways to starve themselves or commit suicide, giving them more privacy to do it is exactly what they need. We adults are clearly too stupid to be responsible for you. Quoting children as a source of validation for your narrative is about as bottom-of-the-barrel as it gets. Shame on you, Washington Post. > More than 100 human rights and LGBTQ groups have condemned the bill, saying it would endanger minors, especially LGBTQ youth. As proof, they quote an article that makes the same vague claim. It's a tautology of bullshit. If you have a kid so at-risk, you should be monitoring them more than most, not less. I challenge anybody to actually do it. Deploy MDM, look at DNS requests, look at their browser history. Take their door off the hinges and confiscate their belts and shoelaces. Your gay kid is in danger at all times, right? You'll find what media calls "sex education" for gay kids is literally-endless streams of smut and pornography they're consuming on Tumblr, Reddit and AO3 (4chan is surprisingly underrepresented). It's a modern take on telling your parents you're upstairs studying when in reality you're just jacking off in-between naps (and insisting you don't have time for a job). Keyword: GOONING
