You may be eating pre-digested food
- h2odragon 3y agoThe cooking process begins breaking foods down; doesn't that count as "pre digesting" too? After all, there's reason to think that some of human evolution came out as it did, because of the extra energy cooked foods made available to our species. But it sounds gross so it's a great way to open a sermon on the Perils of Ease and the Sins of Modern Existence.
- sydbarrett74 3y agoExactly. As Michael Pollan pointed out in The Omnivore's Dilemma, other primates spend up to a quarter of their day just chewing their food. Cooking led to smaller teeth and jaw muscles in hominids because we didn't need to chew quite so forcefully.
