Any child exploitation is unacceptable. However, I have no idea about the current scale of the problem. The article would benefit from providing current data on how big of an issue this is. Does anyone have data to indicate the current size and trends of online child exploitation?
- Ancapistani 3y agoData are hard to collect, because it's such a qualitative thing. Anecdotally, I've sat with my daughters while they were gaming with voice comms, and using things like VRChat and Gorilla Tag. It's very rare that they go more than an hour or so without someone realizing that they're young girls and trying to establish contact outside the game. They're 10 and 15 years old, and if anything the number of attempts increases when they state their age. I have no idea how far those people are intending to take that, or how much their initial intentions match what would actually happen, but it's obvious to me that there is no shortage of people out there trying to be inappropriate with young girls at the very least.
