The funny thing is the money doesn’t even go that far in Silicon Valley! You’d often be better off making less comp but living nearly anywhere else in the world. My theory is the real reason for the return to office mandates is to keep employees stuck in a situation where they are compelled to chase big comp and compromise whatever morals they once had just to put food on the table.
