"The couple moved in together as COVID-19 swept the globe. To Don, the pandemic and the global response to it were filled with clues pointing to some kind of conspiracy, orchestrated by America’s leaders and the media. Maybe the virus was accidentally leaked from a lab; maybe it was a bioweapon. Don also suspected the lockdowns had a nefarious purpose, and he believed the vaccines were unsafe, perhaps designed to kill."
We now know it was likely that "the virus was accidentally leaked from a lab". The government and the media lost credibility when they dismissed that speculation as a "conspiracy theory".
- ZeroGravitas 3y ago> We now know it was likely that "the virus was accidentally leaked from a lab" Do we? Why does this one always get used as the example of something being revealed later as true and exposing the corrupt media when, as far as I'm aware, there's still no evidence for it. At best, there's a few people saying it's not been totally ruled out. Or non-scientists like the FBI suggesting it's likely. Why not point to the reams of climate denial or warmongering if you really need to question the media?
- ThisIsMyAltAcct 3y agoIt was a conspiracy theory in the beginning. The far-right is constantly spamming out conspiracy theories, boosting the ones that are plausible and memory-holing the ones that aren't: Sandy Hook crisis actors, Antifa Jan 6 rioters, a terrorist attack at the border†. The Covid as bioweapon angle didn't take, but the lab leak angle is plausible and has some circumstantial evidence, so now the right is saying "told ya so". But the media dismissed that theory initially for the same reason the villagers dismissed the boy who cried wolf. † https://nitter.poast.org/libsoftiktok/status/1727406500594008199 https://nitter.poast.org/libsoftiktok/status/172740650059400...
