Domains is such a racket. On the retail side, there are too many entrants fighting over <$10/yr scraps like street vendors hawking knockoff DVDs. On the upstream side, there is a king rat of mafioso companies formed out of Byzantine M&As that is completely unreachable and unaccountable to anyone. I know we all hated network solutions when it was the only game in town, but I’m not sure the current flea-market situation is a net improvement.
