This highlights something Ive been struggling with. I run a service that uses split DNS and ostensibly I shouldn't need any client side tooling. However, I am aware of cases where network changes fail to flush the DNS cache (especially on Windows) which means the client is stuck with the wrong DNS records until TTL expiry. Short TTL doesn't quite fix this as TTL is only a suggestion, and some recursive revolvers set a higher minimum TTL.
Tailscale's approach is much more thorough than mine, and this reminds me that I need to deep dive into their code. DNS continues to be hard.
