Making everything a webpage with worse security is an odd way to "improve" something.
I'm also not really sure how IDEs factor into this, to my knowledge there are no electron based IDEs.
- trealira 3y agoThere's Visual Studio Code, which is based on Electron.
- stephenr 3y agoA text editor is not an IDE.

- trealira 3y agoYou probably knew they were referring to Visual Studio Code, even though you disagree that it's an IDE. Next time, please just say that instead of pretending you don't know what they're talking about or referring to.
- stephenr 3y agoLook mate, you clearly think you know what other people are thinking, and hey good for you, that's great I guess. Some of us aren't so gifted as to know what other people are thinking, nor arrogant enough to assume we know, so next time perhaps don't assume you know what I think?
- bugwheels94 3y agoI was not thinking VS Code or anything in particular. I just wrote IDE/Text editors in general because programming has 2 major aspects, one is writing code and another one is running it. I see so many advancements in open source softwares that are used to write code but see barely any(feature wise) in the software that runs the code. all new code running softwares just say fast, faster and fastest and few like Warp are there but there are not OSS and too slow to deliver
- trealira 3y agoSorry for assuming wrong. I see this passive aggressive disagreement over definiitions not uncommonly online, and thought you were doing this. Here's an example between two people talking about US politics (but it doesn't just happen on the subject of US politics): Someone says something about the American political left A: What are you talking about? I don't know of any left wing parties in the US. B: The Democratic Party? A: The Democrats are also right wing, just not as far right as the Republicans. Assuming A is American, there's pretty much no way they didn't know most people in the US think the Democratic Party is on the left. It's like they specifically wanted to feign ignorance so they could respond to B the way they did. Whenever I see this behavior I get annoyed. I thought there was no way someone on HN wouldn't know that Visual Studio Code is based on Electron and commonly considered an IDE. So I assumed you were trying to make a point. But I was wrong; I shouldn't have assumed bad faith on your part.
- stephenr 3y ago> I thought there was no way someone on HN wouldn't know that Visual Studio Code is based on Electron I did know that. The issue isn't that I didn't know what VSCode is. The issue is that I have no idea what "IDEs" OP was referring to when s/he said "IDEs have changed so much in last decade".

- bugwheels94 3y agoSecurity is not an issue cause by default it does not bind to 0.0.0.0 and moreover then this feedback applies to all electron-based apps so I think it can be classified as a preference thing that many people don't prefer electron.
- stephenr 3y ago> this feedback applies to all electron-based apps Yes absolutely, I'm not saying yours specifically is the cause of the issues, it's inherent to the 'platform'. > I think it can be classified as a preference thing that many people don't prefer electron I think 'preference' maybe doesn't convey quite enough weight to the issue but sure that's not far off. To illustrate what I mean about the 'weight' of it being just a preference: I would prefer not to use heavy Java apps, but I still use IDEA because there's no better alternative; I refuse to install Electron apps, so I use e.g Slack in a browser instead of the Slack Electron app.
