Everyone should be aware that someone hijacked the Anki name, so there is the genuine anki project and some copycat SaaS anki service with mobile apps in the app stores using the same name
- dtornabene 3y agoI did not know this, and recommended someone recently install from the app store and it was $25. Makes a lot more sense now.
- Jtsummers 3y agoThe $25 one on the app store is probably the actual one. The creator of Anki has only monetized on iOS/iPadOS (one app, works on both) with a $25 one-time purchase. It's free on all other platforms it's available on (AnkiDroid is not his project, but is compatible and is also free), including on the web. His syncing service is free to use. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ankimobile-flashcards/id373493387 https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ankimobile-flashcards/id373493... <- the legitimate one
- david_allison 3y agoAnkiMobile is legit and is a $25 one-time purchase on iOS. All other platforms are free, including AnkiWeb, which can be used on iDevices
- nequo 3y agoThis is confusing to me. The GitHub repo[1] links to the AnkiWeb website[2] which offers the $25 iOS app as one of the download options. In what way was Anki hijacked here?
