My train once stopped in Bremen because only one toilet was working and soccer fans were aboard the train. In Bremen we could all leave the train, go to the toilet there and resume our trip some 20 minutes later.
That was a bizarre experience.
- davchana 3y agoIn India on long route buses (like 8+ hours) its common for bus to stop for a tea food and bathroom break/stop.
- hollerith 3y agoIt's common on buses in the US, too, but we are talking about passenger trains.
- mattpallissard 3y agoCross country Amtrak has a few stops like that as well.
- blahedo 3y agoI've ridden almost all of the long-distance Amtrak lines and not seen what you describe. There are "long stops" where there are crew changes and refill and restock, but they are not primarily for passengers to visit the train station (and through-passengers that wish to get some fresh air are explicitly warned not to leave the platform, though this is not generally enforced if someone wants to take their chances).
- mschuster91 3y agoThe long distance ICE trains actually have a restaurant on board, although they only serve pre-made food. Czech trains on the other hand? They run actual restaurants with legit chefs on board [1][2]. [1] https://ostkoster.de/speisewagen-und-mitropa-in-ostdeutschland/ https://ostkoster.de/speisewagen-und-mitropa-in-ostdeutschla... - pflenker 3y agoGerman trains also used to have actual chefs on board, but it proved to be very cost-ineffective. There was even a McDonald's on a train, called the MacTrain: https://www.berliner-zeitung.de/streit-zwischen-mcdonald-s-und-der-deutschen-bahn-ag-zu-wenig-umsatz-im-speisewagen-mctrain-schienen-big-mac-bekommt-das-reisen-nicht-li.60386 https://www.berliner-zeitung.de/streit-zwischen-mcdonald-s-u...
