Apple faces 'strong action' if App Store changes fall short, EU's Breton says
- bell-cot 3y agoDaysdream: Apple responds to the EU's ruling by allowing each EU national government to open and directly operate its own National App Store. All profits flow directly to each nation's treasury, and all decisions about protecting its citizens from malicious apps & financial scams & etc. are made by the government's best experts. (Details of whether Nation_1's App Store can be used by citizens of Nation_2, or tourists visiting from Nation_3, or [...] are left for the EU nations to work out.) With 2+ dozen nations in the EU, that would provide ample competition in the EU area. The bureaucrats and politicians could hardly complain about cash flowing into their own coffers. The people of the EU would receive the best protection humanly possible. And when those "Fairy Godmother Government" dreams crashed into the reality of bureaucratic bungling, political scandals, and security screw-ups, over and over - Apply could look darn shiny by comparison, without having to lift a finger.
