Who told you they couldn't leave? 40,000 people came and went every month.
- worksonmine 3y agoShe did, they needed a permit (work for example) and not everyone was able to get one. I don't have any numbers but they did not have the same rights as she and her boyfriend did. Foreign nationals might've had an easier time crossing.
