Is there actually anything special about 1.5°C specifically? Sure, if there's more warming it will be bad, and if there's less it will be less bad. But is there some magical threshold at 1.5 or is that just something people came up with because they thought it might be achievable?
It feels like we keep setting arbitrary limits/deadlines for ourselves and then people get demoralized when we miss those limits, and then we set a new limit and the cycle repeats. So like, I'm really not sure if continuing to push these specific goals in terms of PPM or °C or whatever is actually helping anything, or if it just makes people feel helpless and want to give up when it turns out that the current aspirational benchmark-of-the-day might not be met.
