Depends on what you want to do, but for gaming I've had a good experience using the open source amdgpu drivers on an RX580 ("hey let's try AMD"), 6750 XT ("that was pretty good, let's step up!"), and 7900 XTX ("okay really now let's get serious about DCS and MSFS").
- kijiki 3y agoHow are you finding MSFS to be on Proton? I found it mostly worked, and then broke controller input about 3-4 months ago, and then partially fixed it last month. What controller or stick/throttle are you using?
- Scramblejams 3y agoMy fancy inputs are all on a Windows box, on Linux I'm using an XSX controller, though I've just started trying to change that. We'll see how it goes! Tried my CH Pro Pedals but they weren't working due to an SDL issue that should be fixed in 2.30.0. Tried plugging some VKB gear in but not all the controls were recognized, so I just got another USB controller to install in it so I'm not daisy-chaining the VKB modules anymore. Just received a Grassmonkey head tracker, but haven't had time to try it yet. Not sure if you're running flatpak Steam but I hear controller recognition works better with standard Steam. Other than the control contretemps, it's been a good experience absent the occasional Proton breakage. I stick to Experimental, FWIW.
