Is there any record of another browser engine being summited to the app store and the outcome? AFAIK when I worked at Mozilla I'm not aware that Gecko was ever submitted even though I saw a working local build.
- yellow_lead 3y agoThat's a good question, I don't understand how this is enforced either.
- stefan_ 3y agoThere is (was?) no mechanism for JIT, so even if there was a working local build, it wouldn't be a competitive browser engine.
- johncolanduoni 3y agoEven the WebKit wrapper browsers (including Chrome and Firefox) didn’t have access to JIT until iOS 8 when WKWebView was introduced. UIWebView is in-process and not allowed to use JIT.
- toyg 3y agoWhat would have been the point? It was explicitly forbidden.
- bgirard 3y agoIANAL but I speculate that having explicitly rejected competition could hurt Apple in certain legal proceedings?
