It is my opinion that the United States will not be able to effectively participate in the AI arms race due to its culture of intellectual property. The most intelligent AIs will be trained by everything (as will be the most intelligent humans), and stateside, everything is restricted usage. Unless we see some changes, we have already lost, and are at the mercy of those who do not respect our regulations.
- j0hnyl 3y agoI don't think the folks training large models today in the west are genuinely avoiding any content when it comes to training. I do think that we will make the mistake of enforcing these restrictions legally though, and then what you're saying will be 100% true.
- cyanydeez 3y agoeh, it's not stoping anyone at the moment, so really hard to agree. But you should also consider GIGO when yo uthink about AI advancement. These systems need to keep feeding on data and it's been demonstrated they can be poisoned. So, a whole class of model is going to be forthcoming that is othro to the idea of "IP", in that anything that's not got IP is more garbage. That's just how society functions and AI will function the same way, it's need we got to this point by brute force, but a real AI is going to need proper filters, even if these filters arn't of the [redacted] variety but the "do we really need the model to understand this inane tumblr chat about helicopter sexuality?"
