UK struggles to prove Houthis attacked its trade ships
- draw_down 3y agoPretty much everyone who has stuck their nose into the broader conflict would struggle to prove they did so because it directly affected them.
- theossuary 3y agoIsrael & Egypt have had a blockade in place against Palestine since 2007. Maybe I just don't understand, but it makes a lot of sense for Palestine and its allies to then institute a blockade against Israel in response, right?
- draw_down 3y agoWell, I don’t know that anyone is claiming it makes no sense. But anyway by the same logic, the next turn would be to say it makes sense to fight against that blockade. It wouldn’t make sense to say “oh shucks they did the same thing we did, guess we’ll just give up now”
- theossuary 3y agoSure, in fights between countries might makes right. I have just seen a lot of indignity in the news reporting around the recent attacks; which I didn't understand. But it seems it's just a "my team should win" sort of thing, not one side being good and the other not, which sometimes is the case.
- legitster 3y agoI spent a summer working on a fish processor in Alaska. The boat was owned by a Japanese company, registered in Seattle, crewed by experienced Philippino sailors, and staffed by Americans and Somalians. The nature of international waters is that they are international. Focusing on where the ship was flagged or what the nationality of the crew is a really dumb endeavor. A ship on the ocean is a very useful thing and can have multiple different connections to different countries, but it can still be obvious to anyone asking who is responsible for its safety. In this case, the actions the UK took part of was part of a 12 country joint policing action. This journalist is intentionally being pedantic.
- okasaki 3y agoWell what's wrong with a bit of pedantry when the issue at hand is about blowing people to pieces?
- legitster 3y agoIs that aimed the terrorists launching Iranian missiles at civilian targets in the first place or the military response?
- okasaki 3y agoWell, in this case it's about the terrorists in the London regime, but obviously it should apply to everyone.
- legitster 3y agoThis should be the least morally complex issue ever. The Houthi government was on the path to being a recognized state before they took a bunch of money and missiles from Iran to blindly fire at passing ships. I know the world is not black and white, but you don't have to automatically take the side of the people who literally promise death to the Jews on their flag. The enemy of your enemy might be genocidal anti-democratic maniacs.
