Boeing 757 loses nose wheel while preparing for takeoff in Atlanta
- billy99k 3y agoDoes this happen this often or is it now newsworthy because of all the previous issues?
- chiefalchemist 3y agoThe mainstream media is obsessed with planes, airports, airlines, etc. and any/all related incidents. "What's that Bill? No shark attacks to report? OK then, let's run something about planes and airlines." At any given moment, few people out of all actual fly in a given year, fewer still are in the air at any given moment; given the number of flights, air travel is very safe. But outliers are easy to sensationalize and make great "breaking news". Welcome to the Fear Economy.
- bell-cot 3y ago> The nose wheel of a Boeing 757 ... operated by Delta Air Lines popped off and rolled away as the plane was lining up for takeoff... Sounds like Delta's maintenance folks need to re-take Lug Nuts 101. The last Boeing 757 was built almost 20 years ago - so any "the factory failed to build it right" theories probably won't fly.

- PreInternet01 3y agoCan we, like, cool down a little bit on the 'OMG, yet another Boeing had a problem!!1!' posts? This issue was already submitted as https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39118095 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39118095 and https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39114528 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=39114528 and seems... uninteresting? I can tail -f avherald.com as well as the next person, but come on... The last 757 was delivered over two decades ago, at a time when, allegedly, Boeing still had a proper engineering culture. So, this seems more like a maintenance-slash-really-bad-luck thing than a pervasive manufacturing malpractice scandal. In any case: I would be royally annoyed when flying Delta out of Atlanta on a 757, but mostly because these planes tend to be noisy and cramped, not because of any particular safety concerns...
