Ah yes, those naive years when we thought an archive of historical information would be placed on the internet for our use. That was before everything was segmented into different worlds and cut and divided into small pieces, attempting to provide more value, and more justification for all the negotiators in the background.
- ghaff 3y agoAnderson was probably too optimistic about the value of the long tail for creators. But it was pretty clear early on that the main value was to the aggregators of the long tail (like Amazon). Power Laws still held but in aggregate there was a fair bit of value in the sum across the long tail even if individuals there didn't make much.
