- 1oooqooq 3y agothe rumors was that it restricted addons while trying to win back google's big pay... that is not even hinted in the sources
- Lendal 3y agoThere are not many people who would say that McDonalds' hamburger is the best hamburger in the world, and that Starbucks' coffee is the best coffee, yet brands like these dominate the world like none others and in multiple ways, not the least of which is market share. That doesn't mean they did anything wrong. Or maybe they did. Who knows? Does it matter? I use Firefox daily. I'm typing this into Firefox. I feel fortunate to live right now when such a thing is possible. I'm not all that hopeful about the future though, because I know that we as a society collectively ask for shitty things on a regular basis, and we get exactly what we ask for.

- amanzi 3y agoMy biggest frustration with Mozilla, is how they force me to use other browsers for some tasks. I'm a die-hard Firefox user on Mac, Windows, and Android, but if I want to use PWAs then I'm forced to use a Chromium-based browser. This is the most nonsensical decision Mozilla have made about Firefox, but there are other frustrations too - like if I want to configure my keyboard, I have to switch to Chrome to use the VIA configuration app. It's fine for Mozilla to complain about other platforms/vendors harming them, but they also seem to like shooting themselves in the foot too.
- numbnuts 3y agoVIA is Chromium-only because of WebHID which, last I checked, isn't even on the standards track. I don't blame Mozilla for that. The API is useful but I don't want Firefox just implementing whatever Google decides to try to railroad into web standards. I'm with you on Mozilla removing the ability to install PWAs on desktop though. Strange that they'd ditch it on desktop but not mobile.
