"If there is good news to be found in such a discovery, it is that little of this appears to be new data. Instead, the researchers say, it’s more a case of compiled records from thousands of previous breaches and data leaks." If the issue with SSNs, credit cards, etc. would somehow be solved, even big ones like this would not probably matter that much.

    Do you think this is like a tip of the iceberg situation? Disclosed leaks (massive as they are here) are still 10% of what's actually compromised?

If you know Mr. Troy, drop him a message; I'd like to know his opinion, as I haven't seen academic papers estimating these things. Then, a further question is that as data keeps and keeps accumulating, bigger and bigger and bigger and faster and faster and faster, more and more and more will leak in the future, including more and more sensitive (read: non-personal) data. EDIT: less, not more, sorry for the inconvenience.
