Show HN: I built a video chat app so classmates could do HW and study together
- mdrzn 3y agoGreat idea! Wouldn't this work better as a web app tho? So there's less friction, no install required, you could either require a signup or have a shareable URL.

- cantouch 3y agoHey students! I need your feedback. I've built an app that allows you to do homework and study together with your classmates via live video. Unlike Discord's study rooms, you are behind a virtual frosted glass that makes you feel comfortable being on the live video. Use it to never do homework alone! Hang out with your clasmates together when studying, help each other while doing homework. Studying alone sucks, so don't. Please check it out and tell me what do you think!

- sourcegrift 3y agoSo I was really eager to try it out myself, and I did boot into windows but I'm stuck at https://imgur.com/a/HdrYsdZ https://imgur.com/a/HdrYsdZ for 2 hours and even after reboot somehow the situation remains same ... :-(. Anyway, good luck. I hope your product succeeds because it such a thoughtfully nice touch and might be useful for people like me. Wondering if you'd be creating a Linux port anytime, maybe on steam if piracy is an issue ...
- cantouch 3y agoIt seems, you've an issue with Microsoft Store in your Windows. Too bad. I'd love to hear your feedback on the app. Thank you for the kind words! Maybe you'll try downloading the app again in the future... That'd be great! Even though creating a Linux version of the app is almost the same effort as cretaing a new app from scratch, I hope I'll do that one day.

- cantouch 3y agoYou don't have the possibility to use the frosted glass in online meeting call tools.
- appplication 3y agoLove the idea! The blur and only video for those with camera on make this feel a lot less invasive
- gardenhedge 3y agoBlurred only to the other users but not to the devs, right?
- cantouch 3y agoAccording to the EULA, video streams going through the video server are not kept or stored anywhere. The video server only performs simple stream broadcasting to connected colleagues. Video streams themselves passing through the video server are unblurred. That's how it works for now. Streaming blurred video to the server is a possible future improvement. This would require simultaneous streaming of two streams (with and without blur) when, for example, 2 colleagues out of 5 unblurred themselves for each other. The idea now is to see how attractive the concept is to people in general.
