I was able to avoid them taking the next months payment by cancelling my direct debit from my banking app. I also recommend virtual cards https://monzo.com/help/monzo-plus/virtual-cards-what/ https://monzo.com/help/monzo-plus/virtual-cards-what/ for making payments online, and Apple Pay for paying for things in person.
