Jonathan Blow expects much more layoffs in game industry
- rl3 3y agoThat's a lot of assumptions packed into a single perspective.
- meheleventyone 3y agoYeah Blow has definitely hit some of the internet brain worms on several issues but overall I think he’s right that most companies tend to cut as lightly as possible and often that results in rolling waves. I’ve experienced that myself where a company had 4-5 layoffs over the few years I worked there. Half his reasons I disagree with though. I do share the preference for smaller teams not because large teams have people skivving off but just because it’s a more focused way to work and naturally tends towards more systemic less content heavy games I like to make.
- throwaway5959 3y agoSays the guy that hasn’t released a game since 2016. Yawn.
- mortallywounded 3y agoHeyyyy, that's not fair. The average indie game takes 7 years to develop... he should be releasing... soon.
- catchnear4321 3y ago> …smaller teams where the people on the teams actually work… there’s that same vc recipe of the moment. once you have been tricked back into the office, the next ruse will be that less is more. less headcount, more productivity.
- taskforcegemini 3y agoas in, fewer people will have to take care of more work (for same pay) means more $$$ for the company
