Copyright did not really exist before the 17th century, yet advancements continued all the same. In fact, there are damning indications that outside of the ability to say, “I made this” in creative works, copyright _significantly retards innovation and competition._

- gmerc 3y agoThe same reason we don’t get tax or fossil fuel subsidy reform. An economy with billions of jobs is built on top of it and whoever pulls the jenga will be blamed by voters. Political dynamics make it extremely easy for whoever doesn’t make the decision to capture the voters who are affected.
