Pixologic had perpetual licenses and Maxon ended them and now has a one year support "perpetual" license, so you need to spend hundreds of dollars every year. The alternative is an even more expensive month-to-month subscription. Ideally at the very least, there is perpetual support for bug fixes. New features would be modular and bought separately. I haven't seen this model yet outside of games, and I wonder if it would be the best compromise between subscriptions and full ownership.
