Dart Solar: Charging Your EV Straight from Solar Panels
- jbm 3y agoThere is also a Reddit thread with more details: https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/194ajsm/my_tesla_with_a_drivable_2000_to_4000_solar_array/ https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaLounge/comments/194ajsm/my_tes... The common questions/answers seem to be; 1. How does it work? > Solar panel (DC) -> MPPT (DC) -> Small 1kwh Battery (DC) -> Power Unit (AC) -> Rivian charging adapter -> Into car 2. What is the efficiency loss? > For Beta2 so far it has been minimal. I haven't formally tested it, but it is the same loss as when you install the roof rack. I get about 320 watt / mile. I don't get anything near 320w/m - even in full-on winter weather, so I have no idea if that is considered normal.
