Palworld tops 5M sales after shifting 86,000 copies per hour over the weekend
- doikor 3y agoAnd the game is also available on Game Pass for Xbox/PC so you can play it without buying it on Steam (though due to Microsofts cert process the version is a bit behind)

- dathinab 3y agoIt's kinda sad (and funny) how a very vocal minority of highly toxic twitter users is again trying to cancel a game because this destroying other peoples fun (and maybe even live) seems to be their way of having fun. ---- Like there arguments seem to be: - "Nintendo has a good given monopoly on (potential cute, small) monster catching games, how dare they to make a monster catching game." But Nintendo well know to be fast with DAMC claims and similar seems to not yet have taken any action. - "it's all generative AI stuff stolen from Nintendo", except there is no indication of that and some models are approaching a age of 3 years ... as far as I remember while generative AI is old it only has gotten practically usable quite recently - "you have bestiality" (no, breeding humans is not possible, through catching them and killing them is even through you then become wanted in some form) - "cute monsters with guns is unacceptable", well I guess that is a valid preference but forcing that on others is not like since when did twitter had so little creativity to come up with arguments to denounce stuff, it's getting boring /s (but only half /s)
- LocalH 3y agoIt's DMCA, not DAMC
- matsemann 3y agoDamn, this looks like a straight Pokemon copy with the models (not just because it's "cute monsters", some of them are quiiiite similar to existing pokemons to my eye). Raises two questions: 1. Will Nintendo try to shut this down? 2. Why haven't Nintendo made a proper game like this themselves? Everyone has been wanting it for decades by now.
- dathinab 3y ago> Will Nintendo try to shut this down? The game is in development since 3 years, it took nintendo <24h to DAMC a mod which changed pals to pokemons. The fact that they know about it but haven't taken any actions implies they don't expect to be able to take down the game, at most force it to remove a few specific pals. > quiiiite similar to existing pokemons A lot of Pokemons are quite generic if you ignore their fine details. Not just in later generations but from gen 1 one. Besides that paying homage to predecessors in art and games is pretty common. > Why haven't Nintendo made a proper game like this themselves? Everyone has been wanting it for decades by now. Nintendo mainly makes their Pokemon games for (quite) young people, Pokemons with guns you can enslave to do your work kinda don't fit in there ;=) And "open world Pokemon catching with Pokemon openly running around" is something the did make with some of the recent games. (Through from what I have heart it wasn't that grate.) That they have to fit whatever they create to run on a switch is probably part of the issue, too. The switch is very slow and if you do something at the limit of an hardware platform you have to spend much more time backtracking because some grate idea is a bit to compute or graphic intensive and run into issues like micro-optimizations making code harder to maintain, debug and in turn change and fix bugs.

- bitvoid 3y agoI'm late, but some Pokémon are quite similar to Dragon Quest monsters as well that came out 10+ years before Pokémon. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GEYrZuzXUAAjpkB?format=jpg&name=large https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GEYrZuzXUAAjpkB?format=jpg&name=...
- tibbydudeza 3y agoGood for them - make something fun and the people will come - look at the surprising success of BG3.
