The Metaverse Flopped, So Mark Zuckerberg Is Pivoting to Empty AI Hype
- jruohonen 3y ago"Their play here isn’t about benefit, it’s about profit,” she says. Of course it is, as it also should be with all corporations, and I think the hype is far from unwarranted when it comes to advertising. "The other issue, of course, is privacy, where Meta has a checkered history." These two go hand in hand. But if they do open source a future Llama with their own data (which I doubt), wouldn't only those be affected who visited the Hotel California?
- verdverm 3y agoThe metaverse hadn't flopped, it's too early, we need better hardware (real smart glasses). There is no doubt in my mind that our digital and physical worlds merge in the future. Then there is the embrace of ActivityPub with threads, still needs features, but promising. Meta AI is among the best and they're the only US big tech player giving out weights with commercial license. These have swung my Zuck opinion pendulum back to center
