I see quality building as a materials problem. I'm little surprised at the number of comments promoting that color is tied to quality. I see color generally as the least significant feature of design. There are situation where color becomes important to communicate ideas. These moments I see as design details. I don't see them generally as intrinsic to design. Mosts of the factors I see discussed in this thread are more related to mass manufacturing and trying to guess what people want. Everything is ugly becuase few people take personal responsibility in making the world better.
