I've never heard of anything like this before. Banned for life from old age universal healthcare is pretty nuts.
What happens to her existing FICA[1] contributions and do they still collect it on income she makes after she's released?

- koolba 3y ago> you never heard of anything like this? No I haven’t. I’ve heard of penalties and barring from working in a given industry. But never banning from receiving from Medicare or Medicaid. > I have heard of much worst.... death sentence for example. I never said there weren’t worse sentences. Something can be crazy or interesting without being the most extreme thing possible.
- coldtea 3y agoYes, the death sentence is one nuts, medieval, punishment the US still uniquely clings to among Western countries for some reason (well, the reason being vindictive Old Testament mentality that lusts for blood). To very little effect too, judging from the much worse violent crime problem. But this is a another level of medieval mentality. Even criminals waiting in death row got health treatments to my undestanding. So this is "you can get out of jail at some point, and live to ripe old age, but without access to healthcare welfare programs if you need them". (Doesn't matter is she's from a rich family or never gonna need them or whatever. That someone decided that, and that it's even an acceptable option, is nuts. To me it's not much different to learning that judicially beating children is casually accepted by some legal system). Then again, I guess this is not much different to what's the case for the regular law abiding poor citizen in those parts.
- ijhuygft776 3y agoYou might not get the best care, but hospitals will still treat you if you are broke and it's an emergency. Doesn't make it right but there's options.
- ahazred8ta 3y agoNo, she's not banned from getting benefits. The OIG statement clarifies that "An exclusion is an administrative sanction ... prohibiting payment for any health care item or service furnished, ordered, or prescribed by an excluded person." So this is about a 90 year ban on WORKING in a business that bills the government.
