Dunno really. It is my theory. I got a 10 miles comute one way. So 50 miles range would be more than enough for me with some spare for detours and winter inefficiency. But as you say we would probably need a gas car too, but the EV might be affordable if it is cheaper. A small battery is cheaper to replace as it ages too.
