Show HN: We built a bathroom rental marketplace
- eszabo 3y agoHosted on web, but works even better on iOS, Android, and iPadOS. Let me know what the good/bad is of the user experience- the map takes way too fucking long to load, for one! other than that just click through a listing.
- gregjor 3y agoFirst click, page alerts I have location services disabled, then spinner for a long time. Closed, clicked link again, blank page. iPadOS 17. Not sure what "bathroom rental marketplace" means. Maybe explain that instead of going right to a map that takes a long time and requires permissions. Consider defaulting to some location that has bathrooms for rent if user has location services disabled. I've integrated Google Maps on multiple sites, never seen it take this long to load something.
- eszabo 3y agothanks for your comment, I agree and switching to map box! you can basically view bathrooms on a map, select a 5 minute slot, and pay the provider through the app.
- gregjor 3y agoGood luck with that. I don't schedule my bathroom breaks in advance down to five minutes, don't know anyone who does unless they are in jail or assisted living or work at an Amazon warehouse. Seems unworkable in the kinds of situations where someone desperately needs a bathroom, like dealing with children who give just minutes of warning, if that. Supposing I did have a map of possibly available restrooms, I would just go to the nearest one and offer to pay some token amount to use it, bypassing the app. As an adult I have learned where I might ask to use a toilet with reasonable possibility of success, and almost never have to pay for that. Some years ago a similar idea got floated on some digital nomad forum. The big selling point was finding available toilets when you can't speak the language. That never took off to my knowledge, because learning how to ask someone in a foreign language -- or just doing the universal pantomime for "I have to pee" -- is simpler than using an app.
