It’s an artifact of the economic system that values profit above all else. Of course if short term profit is the goal then quality doesn’t matter, consumers don’t matter, employees don’t matter. The way to fix it is to get rid of the system where idle shareholders extract every drop of value from companies while demanding ever more and move to one where companies have a goal of sustainably producing quality goods/services while treating employees well. Co-ops can be one model of this. Also change the stock market to a simple way to get capital on a short term basis rather than an all consuming gambling machine. This means also having a way for folks to retire that doesn’t depend on them putting all their savings into a casino.
