Ordinary Men: Elon Musk and the court biographer
- yetihehe 3y ago> Because Einstein is a mythic figure, an accurate account of his life would need to embrace some element of myth. Writing it would have to be a powerfully creative act. But Walter Isaacson is not a powerfully creative person. He’s one of history’s lickspittles. A court eunuch. The man who wrote Elon Musk. The rest is just reiteration and detailing of that topic, shitting on biography writer for being unimaginative and writing non-masses-moving biography of a space pioneer. Still worth the read if you're into that kind of thing.
- gregjor 3y agoI don't think you understand how book reviews work. Musk does not qualify as a "space pioneer," and you would find out why if you read the whole review. Repeatedly promising colonies on Mars, reusable Starships, point-to-point rocket trips, and all of the other stuff he has promised doesn't count as pioneering -- anyone can make empty promises. He did learn how to grift for tax money, but Boeing, Lockheed, et al got their a long time ago.
