The runaway greenhouse effect does not need to "turn us in to Venus" to be a problem. The person who wrote their interpretation thay way deserves admonishment.
That said, the runaway greenhouse effect can, and absolutely will, negatively affect our ability to crop, graze, and inhabit large areas. It does put at risk our ability to continue to feed, irrigate, and house large portions of population, and it will cause increasing desertification and high prevalence of higher cost natural disasters and severe weather including both hot, cold, dry, and wet. These are all factors which deserve our continued attention and efforts, and they should not be dismissed by some of our conservative pseudo-science brethren so readily.
