This is a bit exaggerated. I've had a 1U or 2U server box colo'ed for the last 20+ years, and it's been consistently in the $80-$100 range. Double my total costs if you add that I'm replacing a $5K server box every 5-7 years or so. The duct-tape-maintenance vs your-time criticisms are 100% dead-on though.
