Your first patent is like "Ohhhhh!" but subsequent ones are like "meh!" If you take away the financial incentive to do patents then I won't even try filing them. If you don't pay me enough to file one then I won't bother. Filing patents is a hassle and dealing with the lawyers and crawling through legalese is a pain in the bum. Once you have a couple then it's all about the $$$ IMO. iBM must be cutting their throat to save a few bucks. They used to be a massive patent harvesting machine.
