Ruy Texeira's The Emerging Democratic Majority in the early lights is the source of this. Was a very talked about book, The Atlantic did a big feature, there's a retrospective on it every few years.
There's also the original argument, and what I often refer to as "vulgar Emerging Democratic Majortarianism" which is how lefty people in real life will generally phrase it- basically a team sport "yay immigrants will vote for us"(Or "boo immigrants won't vote for us" for righties).
Interestingly, Ruy Texeira is fully off of the Emerging Democratic Majority train, and thinks the Democrats are driving off a cliff driving away working class voters now.
- Arainach 3y agoDoes anyone who uses the term "lefty" actually converse with any progressives in real life (trolls on social media do not count)? I've volunteered in efforts in the ground, I've worked directly with state legislators and their staff, and I have never come across anyone framing the argument in this manner.
- klooney 3y agoI have never worked with state legislators, but my general impression is that they're more, uh, polite, than the general population. I framed that version as "vulgar..." for a reason.
