This is part of the problem - people find RSA much easier to "understand" than ECC, and as a result prefer it to ECC, despite RSA being much worse :-/ (I also question "understanding RSA", I think people understand exponentiation and modulo arithmetic but have no real understanding of why it works vs why ECC works)
